Performing Arts Regional Touring

Tasmanian Regional Arts also supports regional communities to access quality performing arts touring.

Theatre, music, dance, comedy and puppetry performances have always proven popular with regional audiences. From 2008 TRA has continued to support touring productions in collaboration with a range of performing arts companies, festivals and government agencies.

In 2007 TRA changed the way that it supports performing arts touring in response to funding agency requirements. These changes see TRA operate more as a broker of tours. This change has allowed TRA to develop new partnership opportunities with organisations such as Ten Days on the Island and Tasmania Performs. Through this brokerage model, TRA now works with its partners and its branch network capacity to create partnerships with local government, community groups and local sponsors that will lead to greater local determination in regional product selection.

While smaller, TRA’s touring of performing arts program is selected in a similar manner to its visual arts and crafts program. Artists and companies with potential product under development should discuss touring opportunities with TRA. Expressions of interest are due on 16 December 2011 with the performing arts touring program launched early in 2012.
